FOUR people have been taken to hospital after a serious crash on a Southend road.

Ambulance services were called to Southchurch Road at around 2.24pm after the crash.

Witnesses watched in horror as paramedics rushed to treat those involved, with one person believed to be a cyclist.

Three ambulances, an ambulance officer and air ambulance attended the scene.

A witness, who asked not to be named said: "A silver car went to pull out and got hit by another car which just drove off.

"The silver car then hit a cyclist. Everyone heard the bang it was colossal.

"We could see everyone attending to the cyclist.

"Everyone just stood there in shock. It was awful."

It's not yet known what injuries were sustained.

Kursaal ward councillor, Matt Dent said: "It's horrible to hear of incidents like this and I hope everyone involved is OK.

"We hate to hear about these things but I hope everybody is alright.

"It's bad weather at the moment and we need to be careful when we are on the roads.

"Please can everyone just be aware of the vehicles around them, especially cyclists."

Essex Police have been contacted for comment.
