FIREFIGHTERS have now put out a blaze which affected a number of vehicles, containers and a caravan at an industrial site near to the A127 in Billericay.
Crews from Basildon, Billericay and Wickford attended the scene at Oak Lane last night, with the fire extinguished by 10.43pm.
Three crews were expected to remain at the scene through most of the night to damp down and check for hotspots/ Residents were urged to keep their doors and windows closed after the fire caused thick smoke in the area.
Station manager Steve Osborn said: "When crews arrived they were faced with a couple of cars and car transporter on fire, and it had also spread to a caravan and containers.
"The water supply was difficult, due to the remote location, so firefighters had to work really hard to get on top of the fire.
"Thanks to their professionalism and quick response the fire is now under control."
The cause of the fire has been recorded as unknown.
