A DRIVER who claimed he could not afford insurance so “took a chance” has seen their car seized by officers.
Essex Police’s Operational Support Group was out conducting patrols in and around Hadleigh on June 12.
Before long a suspicious-looking VW Golf, which had stopped, caught the attention of the specialist team's officers.
Following a few checks it was soon established the vehicle was not insured.
When officers questioned the driver they stated they could not afford the insurance so "took a chance", deciding to drive anyway.
A spokesman for Essex Police Castle Point said: “Unfortunately for them that ‘chance’ means a £300 fine, six penalty points on their licence, plus seizure and storage costs.”
