A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and assaulting a police officer following a crash on a busy road.
Essex Police received reports of a two vehicle smash in Sutton Road, Southend, at about 8.20pm on Friday June 8.
Officers attended the scene and shut down the road between East Street and A13 Southchurch Road forcing traffic to divert.
Following the crash a 39-year-old man, from Westcliff, was arrested on suspicion of both drink driving and assaulting a police officer.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and care after the incident and currently remains in police custody.
Anyone who saw what happened or has any CCTV or dash cam footage is asked to contact Essex Police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 1219 of 18 June.
