Motorists are facing long delays on the A127 this afternoon following a crash.

The collision, which involved a motorbike, has happened on the London bound carriageway just after the B148 at Dunton, near Laindon.

Police say the motorcyclist has sustained serious injuries.

Long queues as far back as Noak Bridge have formed on the London bound side of the road which was said to be “fully blocked”.

One lane has now reopened but traffic remains heavy.

AA’s traffic map says there are also some delays on the Southend bound side of the road as well.

Delays of up to 20 minutes are being reported.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are on the scene of a collision on the A127 near Dunton.

"We were called to reports of a collision involving a motorbike at around 1pm today (Wednesday 23 June).

"The rider of the motorbike has sustained potentially serious injuries.

"If you saw what happened or have any dash cam footage please call us on 101 quoting incident 630 of 23 June or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

First Essex says some of its bus services have been delayed as a result of the crash, which is causing some congestion in Basildon.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "An ambulance was called to a road traffic collision on the A127 near Dunton just after 1.30pm today.

"An adult man was transported to Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals for further assessment and treatment."
