QUICK action from firefighters led to a roof fire being extinguished before it could spread out of control.
Firefighters attended Elderton Road, Westcliff today at 12.14pm where a terraced house had its roof on fire.
Thankfully, the crews from Leigh, Southend and Hawkwell managed to extinguish the blaze by 12.55pm, and remained at the scene to check for hotspots.
Watch Manager Lee Hollingsworth said: "Crews did a brilliant job to extinguish fire so quickly, limiting damage to about 20 per cent of the roof, and stop it from spreading.
"We dealt with the incident from inside and outside of the property, making use of scaffolding being used by a roofer, in addition to our own working at height equipment."
The cause has been recorded as accidental.
