A MUM who shed an astonishing ten stone says she was “happier when bigger” after being left with excess skin around her stomach.

Becky Motton, from Leigh, went into a deep depression when her partner died in 2014, and her weight ballooned up to 21 stone.

Knowing she had to make vital changes, the 28-year-old cut out junk food and when lockdown hit, began walking more and eating healthily.

Now, she has gone down to 12 stone, but has loose skin hanging on her belly.

Ms Motton has suffered with her health, having been born with a hole in her heart, but, even after her incredible weight loss, still feels anxious about how she looks.

She is now appealing for help from the public to raise £8,500 via GoFundMe for private surgery to remove the excess skin and get her life back.

The mum of two said: “I have had a few consultations and was quoted between £13,000 and £20,000.

“I am never going to have that.

Echo:

“My mental health medication didn’t help with that.

“It was never the case that I would just sit there and eat.

“I’ve lost ten years of my life, I stayed in relationships I shouldn’t have been in.

“I have a little girl and I can’t go swimming, but I want to be a good parent.

“Not everyone gets excess skin.

“It stops me doing things with the kids and stops me wearing outfits.

“If anything, I was happier when I was bigger.

“I thought losing the weight would make me happy, but it hasn’t.

Ms Motton, who has two children aged three and nine, now trains regularly at the gym and feels better about her health.

She said: “If I had gone to the doctors ten stone heavier, they might have reduced my stomach, but that’s the easy option. I wanted to do it the right way.

“The NHS in the long run will have had a lot of money to pay over diabetes if I got that.

“My kids are the most important thing to me. If this makes them happy, that is the best thing, and I don’t care what anyone else thinks.”

Ms Motton is also doing her own fundraising events, such as a 20-mile walk within one day at the end of July, to help with the fundraising.
