PUBS are set to be full to the brim when England go head to head in the Euro 2020 semi finals - with bosses crossing their fingers and already preparing for the team’s hopeful spot in the final.

Steve Haslam, owner of the Bread and Cheese in Thundersley, says his phone has been ringing every 90 seconds, receiving calls from punters and football fans alike hoping to book their spot at the venue.

The pub, which is already fully booked for tomorrow’s game, have set up a 180 seat fanzone alongside a huge five metre by five metre screen and an outside bar service to give visitors the full Euro experience.

Should the Three Lions prove successful and beat Denmark in the upcoming match, they will move on to compete in Sunday’s final - in which event bosses plan to build a second fan zone.

Mr Haslam said: “The first game with the new fanzone open was a total sell out, people absolutely loved it and there was such an atmosphere. The buzz on Saturday was just incredible.

“We opened the bookings on Sunday morning for this Wednesday’s game and they sold out after five hours. We are now fully booked which is fantastic and people have non-stop been ringing for a table.

“But these events don’t just happen, it takes a lot of planning which people don’t see and there is quite a cost. Those 42 benches don’t just appear, they have to be purchased.

“There is also the big screen, the screen’s housing and electricians to make it all happen - it all comes together to give our guests a great time. We’re also building an outside toilet block for the men so people don’t have to wait to use them.”

Josh Gibson, owner of the Crown in Billericay, says his team received 2,500 phone calls on Monday alone from punters trying to book a place to watch the semi-final.

He said: “We’ve actually been fully booked for every match, and if we get through to the final we’re offering the people that have booked with us already throughout the games to come in for the last.”

Joan Tiney, owner of the Borough Hotel on Southend seafront, is taking bookings for Wednesday, adding: “We were fully booked for the last game by Friday, lots were keen to head down. We’re expecting it to be quite busy for the next match, and thankfully have been busy ever since we re-opened.”
