SOUTHEND United boss Phil Brown feels England’s managerial team can guide the Three Lions to glory at the European Championship.

Brown will be at Wembley tonight for England’s semi-final with Denmark.

And the Shrimpers boss is certain England manager Gareth Southgate and his assistant Steve Holland can secure success for the nation after seeing their work first hand.

“We had Gareth Southgate and Steve Holland put on a seminar I went to for the diploma course I’ve been on,” said Brown.

“Steve Holland put on a coaching session that was just absolutely outstanding. It was actually accepted there and then by Gareth that Steve was the better coach and that he manages. But as a partnership you can see that the way England play has been stamped on by a good coach.

“Steve worked under Dario Gradi at Crewe and if you had closed your eyes and just listened you would’ve thought you were listening to Dario talking.

“It was unbelievable but to be brutally honest I thought England were going to win this right from the start and I still do now.”

England set up this evening’s semi-final at Wembley with a resounding 4-0 win against Ukraine on Saturday night. And Brown feels the Three Lions are now starting to hit top form.

“I’ve been very, very impressed with England so far and the way they’ve approached games,” said the Blues boss.

“They’ve stamped their authority on it and we’ve got such a good front five.

“But you do have to admire Gareth.

“He’s made changes, he’s changed systems and I don’t think anyone really knows what the best England team is right now.

“You do have certain players who can’t be dropped at the moment and the only spaces really up for grabs are the number 11 stroke seven or the two in three. Luke Shaw, for me, is one of the players of the tournament and, although everyone is talking about the Italians, I think England are the best team in the tournament.”

However, Brown is taking nothing for granted against a strong Denmark side who saw off Czech Republic 2-1 in their own quarter final clash.

“When I was at Bolton Wanderers we had four Danish players at any one time and they were all very good technicians,” said Brown.

“Colin Todd would look all over Denmark for players.

“They had a good mentality and it’s synonymous for the way they are. I’m looking forward to the semi-final, I’m going to the game at Wembley with my daughter and hopefully we will enjoy it.

“There will be a lot of emotion and passion but that’s from both teams. The passion Denmark have shown in this tournament after what happened with Christian Eriksen has been phenomenal. But I think we’re growing as the tournament progresses and could really go and win it.”
