Pictures have shown the scene as police and fire crews closed off a road left flooded.
The emergency services are at the scene at the junction of Bull Lane and The Chase in Rayleigh.
In pictures sent to the Echo residents can be seen wading through knee high deep water.
It's unknown yet what has caused the major flooding but it is understood it may be related to a burst water main.
Emergency services have been contacted for comment.

Residents have described the issue as leaving the road "like a river".
It is not yet known how long the road will have to be closed for.
The AA's traffic map shows the area around the road closure is busy with drivers facing delays.
