FILMING for a new TV series made by the company behind Killing Eve will help put Southend and Canvey on the map.

Dave Blackwell, councillor for Canvey Central, says his phone hasn’t stopped ringing about the new police crime thriller, Ragdoll, as the sight of cameras create a buzz on the seafront.

It features famous faces including Henry Lloyd-Hughes who starred in the second series of Killing Eve, American actress Lucy Hale – best known for her role in Bionic Woman – and Thalissa Teixeira, from Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw.

Beachgoers watched on in excitement as crews were spotted filming a scene for the show, which will be shown on Alibi, at an address in Eastern Esplanade, Canvey on Thursday.

Seafront trader Martin Richardson, the owner of the Happidrome Arcade in Southend, has himself seen the team in action.

Echo: Notice - An advisory that filming is taking place in the area

He said: “It’s absolutely fabulous they chose Southend, we have so much to offer here that they’ve got everything they need.”

Canvey residents had been pre-warned about the filming operation through a letter seen by the Echo.

Residents were warned one scene would involve one of the characters breaking down the front door of a property.

Councillor Blackwell said: “My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing from people saying ‘what’s going on down the seafront with all these TV cameras’.

“I think it’s where Canvey is still that authentic seaside town. We still have that traditional side and things haven’t changed since I was a kid.”

The series is based on the novel with the same name, written by Daniel Cole. It follows the investigation into the murder of six people who have been dismembered and reshaped into a “ragdoll”.

It is not yet known when the series will air.
