A man has been arrested on suspicion of a string of offences after a crash left a victim with serious injuries.
The hit and run crash happened in Chichester Road, Southend, last night at around 8pm.
Essex Police closed the road after receiving reports of a man aged in his 40s who was seriously injured, shortly after 8pm.
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 29-year-old man from Shoebury has now been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs after the incident last night.
He remains in custody for questioning this morning.
The road was re-opened at 12.45am this morning.
