A woman was struck in the head by a bottle during the violent scenes in Watford town centre after England's Euros defeat.

Police have revealed more details of the chaos that ensued on Sunday, which involved 30 reported incidents and five arrests on the night.

One of the incidents involved a woman, who was among a large crowd of people in The Parade, being rushed to hospital after she was struck by a bottle which was thrown from an unknown direction.

According to the force, she suffered a cut to her head, but no suspect was identified and the victim did not support further police action.

During the night, a man was also assaulted outside the Dome Bar in St Albans Road following an altercation and temporarily knocked unconscious.

He was awake when emergency services arrived but was taken to hospital for treatment on a nose injury.

Police said enquiries are continuing.

Hertfordshire Constabulary estimates that around 400 people gathered in the town centre after the Three Lions’ agonising penalty shootout at Wembley.

Other than the two people injured, there was also an alarming moment when a crowd of youths lashed out at officers and began to kick the van in anger.

The force said they were also busy due to other incidents across the county, including two injuries in Hatfield and disturbances in North Herts.

Five people in North Herts were arrested that night, for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Chief Inspector David Partridge previously explained: “As per previous fixtures throughout the tournament, there was a substantial policing operation in place across Hertfordshire for last night’s (July 11) Euro 2020 final and we worked closely with our partners and licensed premises to ensure everyone enjoyed the game safely.

“It was very busy compared with the previous England fixture and while the majority of fans acted in a responsible manner, sadly there were a few people who let the side down. We had 30 reported incidents throughout the evening, with five arrests.

“While we fully understand the disappointment that many people will have felt, there is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behaviour. Follow up enquiries are being conducted at this time and those involved will be dealt with accordingly."
