A woman has to be rescued from a car by firefighters after the vehicle was involved in a crash.
Fire crews from Southe Woodham Ferrers and Orsett were called to deal with the incident yesterday afternoon in Runwell Road, Wickford.
It happened around the same time a sheltered accomodation in the town went up in flames.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash and it took firefighters more than an hour to rescue a woman who had become trapped in the wreckage.
She was then left in the car of the ambulance service for treatment.
The crash happened close to the junction with Golden Jubilee Way and caused long delays throughout late afternoon and into early evening.
East of England Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
