Drivers are being warned to expect delays after a lorry crashed into the central reservation on the A127.
The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway near to the Fortune of War roundabout in Laindon.
Police are at the scene and have been forced to close one lane.
The force control room has warned the closure will be in place between Laindon and Dunton for some time.
It tweeted: "We are dealing with a Road Traffic Collison in Laindon on the A127 Eastbound by the fortune of war roundabout.
"A lorry has collided with the central reservation causing considerable damage that will require a lane to be closed for some time until this can be repaired.
"This may likely cause congestion so please try to plan your journey in advance and avoid the area if possible."

AA's traffic map is reporting delays of at least 15 minutes at present.
