SOUTHEND coastguard were called to a total of 10 incidents on Sunday as thousands flocked to the seafront for the hottest weekend of the year.

The coastguard attended a number of incidents throughout the day, with the final report being an overdue jet ski off of West Slip.

Upon arrival at the scene, Southend Coastguard were informed by the first informant that the overdue jet ski had now made it safely back to shore after encountering engine problems when out on the sea.

After a period drifting, riders were able to restart the engine and make it back to shore.

While attending the incident, officers were approached by members of the public reporting dangerous manoeuvring of some jet skis close to the beach.

The coastguard requested the help of Essex Police to take charge of the reports.

Members of the team received abuse on a number of occasions from a small minority of the public when they were just trying to keep the community safe.

Southend coastguard has warned anyone looking to disrupt its operations or who are abusive or aggressive towards officers will not be tolerated.

Under the Emergency Workers (Obstruction) Act 2006, assistance will be requested from colleagues at Essex Police.
