A MAN has been acquitted of assaulting police officers by spitting and punching them.
Giles Carter stood trial at Basildon Crown Court, where he was charged with assaulting emergency workers.
It was alleged that Mr Carter, 47, of Ronald Park Avenue, Westcliff, had punched one officer and spat blood and saliva onto another one when being wrestled to the ground during an incident in Westcliff at 1am in the morning.

The jury heard he had reacted when being arrested, hit a male police officer and spat on a female officer.
However, following the trial, the jury acquitted Mr Carter on both counts yesterday.
