A TEENAGER was brutally punched in the face by a grown man during a daylight attack in the street...just weeks after his brother was “dragged” to the floor and robbed.

The 13-year-old boy had been sitting outside the Rio Bingo hall on Canvey when he was grabbed by the arm and punched in the face by his attacker, believed to be in his 60s.

The youngster returned home with a busted lip and blood-covered hands, following the attack at around 4.20pm on Wednesday.

It comes just four weeks after the victim’s 12-year-old brother was also assaulted, having been targeted by two phone-thieving women outside Islanders Fish Restaurant.

Their mum, 37 from Canvey, said: “I honestly could not believe this had happened to either of my children, let alone both.

“My 13-year-old was out with his friends at the time, but when he came in I could tell by his voice he was upset.

“I heard him call ‘mum can you phone the doctor’ and I asked why, thinking he must’ve fallen off his bike.

“He then told me he’d just been punched by a man, so I quickly rushed out and saw his mouth was pouring with blood.

“He told me they were on the steps of the bingo hall when one of the boys thought this man was his grandad from behind, and so called to him.

“The next thing you know the man went up to my son and grabbed him by the arm, basically at his shoulder, and swung round to punch him.

“He also had blood on his hands where he wiped his face.”

The brave youngster, who struggles with social and emotional anxiety, was left shaken by the attack - but took it better than his mother ever thought he would.

She added: “When it happened to my other son he was saying he would never go out and didn’t for two weeks. He goes to a special needs school and the whole thing effected him quite badly. It was still quite a shock to my eldest too. Now I’ve just got that worry in my head, people aren’t scared to do it.

“After it happened he went over to a security guard at Sainsburys to ask if he could help, and rang the police straight away before coming home.”

Police are now urging anyone with any information to come forward. Call 101 and quote incident 912 of July 21. The man is described as white, in his 60s, 5ft 6ins tall, slim, bald and wearing a beige shirt and trousers.
