BASILDON Tories have gained a crucial seat from Labour in a by-election win last night.
Stuart Terson, councillor of the Pitsea north west ward, romped home with more than half of the votes against Labour's Aidan McGurran.
Mr McGurran had lost his seat in the Vange ward in the May election.
The seat in Pitsea north west had been left open after former leader Gavin Callaghan stepped down after the elections.
The former Labour councillor has spoken out after the result.
Big result for the Tories.
