A BIKER tragically died after losing control and crashing into a lamppost after a wheelie, an inquest heard.

Robert Kenward had been out riding his motorcycle as part of a group in Cliff Parade, Leigh when the tragic crash happened.

The 24-year-old had been pulling a wheelie when he sadly lost control of his vehicle and collided with a lamppost when heading towards Hadleigh.

Members of the public rushed to help Mr Kenward and give first aid at the scene.

However, Mr Kenward’s injuries were too great and he was tragically declared dead at the scene on August 30 last year, at around 6.30pm.

The inquest into Mr Kenward’s death was held at Essex Coroner’s Court in Chelmsford.

When re-opening the inquest, Area Coroner Michelle Brown said that the police had found no suspicious circumstances in Mr Kenward’s crash.

She said: “He was travelling on his motorbike and while doing a wheelie he lost control and crashed into a lamppost.

“Paramedics confirmed death on the roadside.

“The family felt at the time that it was an accident. He loved riding his bike and his mum spoke to him 45 minutes before and he was in a normal mood.

“There were no suspicions and no other vehicles involved.”

Summarising the cause of death from the post-mortem examination, Coroner Brown said Mr Kenward had previously undergone heart surgery and had a stent inserted into his heart.

The post-mortem said it was likely that the force Mr Kenward had been exposed to led to the metal stent causing his injuries.

PC James Lee, the officer in charge of the case, said: “He had assistance from members of the public who arrived promptly, but he sustained injuries he was unable to recover from and he died at the scene.

“Having considered all possible evidence it seems likely that due to a miscalculation in personal ability he lost control of the bike and as a result sadly died.

“I managed to ride the bike after and it was a bit damaged but it performed and operated as normal.”

Mr Kenward’s family paid tribute to him after his death as someone “who brought everyone together” and “made people laugh uncontrollably” with a “contagious” laughter.

Coroner Brown recorded a verdict that Mr Kenward died in a road traffic collision.

She added: “It’s been a long time, and now it’s the final chapter.”
