TRAVELLERS have refused to leave a country park, despite being ordered to do so by the end of yesterday.

The travellers, who pitched up at the Cherry Orchard Country Park car park in Rochford on Sunday, remain at the site.

A direction to leave notice was issued to the group, which includes ten caravans and other vehicles, informing them to leave by the end of yesterday.

However, council chiefs have now applied for a court eviction, which has been set for Monday August 16.

This comes after council bosses ruled out installing extra security measures at the car park, despite the latest encampment.
