A CAR has been written off after it crashed into railings in Leigh.

Witnesses were left shocked after the Vauxhall Astra crashed on London Road, Leigh at 4.45pm on Monday.

Residents reported that the driver had ploughed into the railings near the junction with Eastwood Road, before exiting the car and fleeing the scene.

Essex Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.

A spokesman said: "It was reported a black Vauxhall was in collision with railings and the driver had left the scene.
