"The team on the barge are undergoing piling work to support the new WC block.
"To improve the visitor experience when spending a penny on future visits."
The upgrade of Southend Pier will also see new, all-electric trains installed, while a new restaurant area is being added inside The Royal Pavilion.
Further additions include wind-blocks and a brand new viewing platform.
Separate plans could also see a new cafe built on the pier which would come with a rooftop terrace.
The new trains were due to be introduced earlier this summer but were delayed by a paint issue.
It is hoped they will be ready in time for September.
