THREE people were trapped inside their cars in a serious crash in Laindon.

Emergency services swamped the scene of the crash at the junction of West Mayne and High Road last night, which involved two vehicles.

The incident took place just after 5pm and saw three ambulances sent to the scene.

Reports say a car had flipped over at the scene.

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on High Road, Laindon just after 5pm on Tuesday.

"On arrival, crews reported that two vehicles had collided and three people were trapped inside the vehicles.

"Firefighters worked to rescue all three casualties by 6.34pm and they were left in the care of the Ambulance Service."

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust said: "We sent three ambulances and the hazardous area response team to the B148 at Laindon after receiving reports of a collision at around 5.05pm yesterday.

"Crews treated three people at the scene before transporting them to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further assessment and care."

Essex Police say one of the three casualties suffered serious injuries and are receiving treatment in hospital.
