Coronavirus rates remain steady in Southend after the borough saw only three fewer cases recorded in the past week.

In the seven days to August 14, there were 442 new infections recorded in Southend.

That means the infection rate is 241.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The rate last week was 243.5 after 445 cases were found in the borough.

Basildon has also recorded 442 infections in the past week, but Castle Point has the highest infection rate with 248.6.

It recorded 225 new cases but its infection rate is higher due to its smaller population.

All areas in Southend aside from one are recording localised infection rates above 100, but none are currently exceeding 400.

  • Shoebury – 16 new cases (down 16)
  • West Shoebury – 24 new cases (up 7)
  • Southchurch – 32 new cases (up 13)
  • Thorpe Bay – 13 new cases (down 8)
  • St Lukes – 37 new cases (up 5)
  • Kursaal – 16 new cases (down 12)
  • Southend Central – 38 new cases (up 13)
  • Victoria – 48 new cases (down 12)
  • Chalkwell – 22 new cases (up 5)
  • Westborough – 32 new cases (up 1)
  • Prittlewell – 19 new cases (down 4)
  • Eastwood – 25 new cases (up 2)
  • Blenheim Park – 35 new cases (up 11)
  • Leigh – 24 new cases (down 5)
  • West Leigh – 17 new cases (up 2)
  • Belfairs – 28 new cases (up 8)
  • Eastwood Park – 16 new cases (down 5)

Meanwhile the latest Office for National Statistics estimates suggest around one in 80 people in private households in England had Covid-19 in the week to August 14.

That was down slightly from one in 75 in the previous week.

One in 80 is the equivalent of about 698,100 people.
