Plans for a 15-metre-tall 5G mast in Billericay have been submitted to the council.

The proposals would see the telephone mast and three electrical cabinets erected on a grass verge behind pavement adjacent to Hillway, Sunnymede.

The mast would be delivered by mobile telecommunications and data services giant CK Hutchison Networks and would serve users on the Three (H3G) network.

Plans for the mast were submitted on August 23 and residents who oppose the proposed development may do so in writing to Basildon Council's planning committee by September 6.

Planning documents submitted by CK Hutchinson Networks state the 15-metre height of the mast is “the minimum required to bring the benefits of 5G to this area”.

The documents further state: “H3G (Three) is committed to providing improved network coverage and capacity, most notably in relation to 5G services. In these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is recognised that high-speed mobile connectivity is the lifeblood of a community; facilitating educational benefits, providing access to vital services, improving communications.

“It is our opinion that the proposed design presents a better ‘fit’ within the local community and immediate street scape, offering a reduced visual impact upon an area of adopted highway identified.”
