BIN collections have once again been suspended, amid issues with driver shortages across Basildon.

Residents in Wickford won't have their pink recycling sacks collected today due to "operational issues", Basildon Council confirmed.

Collections of pink sacks were suspended last week, with residents told to take their bags back inside until "further notice."

But Gavin Callaghan, former Labour leader of Basildon Council, now claims that pink sacks won't be collected at all this week.

He said: "I’m now hearing there will be NO pink sack collections for the whole of next week.

"This is an absolute shambles.

"Where are the Tory councillors to explain what is happening?

"During the pandemic, my administration managed to ensure full refuse collections, every day of the week, every month, throughout the whole pandemic."

Basildon Council was contacted for comment.
