Plans to convert a former betting shop into a takeaway have been given the go ahead.

Dallas Chicken will be setting up a new site in Westcliff after getting planning permission to move into the ground floor of 166 Hamlet Court Road.

It is currently vacant but has flats above.

The conversion will see a small seating area added for customers, while an extraction flue would be installed at the rear.

Three objections were made against the application, with concerns focusing on the impact on neighbouring buildings, additional noise and waste coming from the site, as well as the appearance of the extracting equipment.

But planning officers said the objections did not provide reasonable grounds to refuse the proposals, and insisted they had no concerns over the impact the takeaway would have on parking in the area.

The officer’s report added: “The proposal would have an acceptable impact on the character and appearance of the building and the locality, and would not harmfully affect the frontage of townscape merit.

“The amenities of neighbouring occupiers would be reasonably maintained, and the highways impacts of the proposal are not considered to be harmful.”

No changes will be made to the front of building, aside from the Dallas Chicken branding being added.

The takeaway will be open from 10am until 3am seven days a week.

Dallas Chicken serves a range of food, including chicken nuggets and wings, burgers, fries and sweet treats such as cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake.
