THE heartbroken partner of a man who died after being hit outside a bar said he “didn’t want any trouble” and she “thinks about his death every day”, as she gave evidence.

The girlfriend of Matthew Bion took to the stand yesterday at Basildon Crown Court as part of the trial into his death.

The father-of-two died of a fatal brain injury on August 27, 2019, following the incident outside Reids bar, in Billericay on August 18.

Dennie Griffiths, 28, of Hermitage Drive, Laindon, is standing trial accused of manslaughter.

Speaking to the jury yesterday, Mr Bion’s girlfriend fought back tears to give evidence as she described the punch as “forceful” and insisted Mr Bion “didn’t want any trouble” on the night.

She said: “I think about it everyday.

“He was punched with an upwards motion and it was very forceful.

“I shouted out for help after he hit the concrete and for someone to get the man who had done this as he’s dangerous.

“Matthew feel backwards like someone would in a boxing ring and didn’t try to break his fall.

“Before he was hit Matthew was holding up his hands in front of him as if to say he didn’t want any trouble.

“The ginger male, who hit him, was jumping about like a boxer from side to side and the swung at Matthew but he missed, I felt the breeze of the motion.

“He then reached out again and punched and made contact with Matthew, who was calm before the punch.”

She told the court she, Matthew and four friends were having a night out at the venue and when they left and waited for a taxi girls in their group started to fight.

The court previously heard Griffiths was beating his chest and looking for a fight before the punch.

Jade Chambers, of Hermitage Drive, Laindon, is also standing trial in relation to the death.

She is alleged to have assisted Griffiths by telling him to hide over text messages in the aftermath of the incident.

Griffiths claims he acted in self-defence.

The trial continues.
