PLANS for a late-night house music event at a bar could be scrapped after complaints from families.

Players Lounge, in Billericay, has applied to extend its licence until 3am this weekend.

Basildon Council will consider the plans on Thursday after concerns about too much noise were raised by nearby families and the Environmental Health Department.

Papers for this week’s meeting show the department has objected to the licence extension and the council is set to decide on allowing or stopping the event.

Acts include Radio 1 DJ Charlie Hedges, New Worlds - Floyd T, Centreforce 883’s - Micky ‘Star’ Lewis and more.

But event bosses say they are doing all they can to stop any disturbance to the community.

Vicky Woolnough-Synowka, events manager at the town’s venue, said she wants to reassure residents there will be no issues.

She said: “I will be speaking at the meeting and we are concerned about the worries raised by the residents and we do not want to disturb anyone and want to run a successful business.

“I was surprised by the objections as we’ve always had a good and healthy relationship with the council and residents and want to continue this.

“We are making adjustments which we feel will ensure there are no issues or disturbances at all. We want to reassure people we are on top of this.”

She said she doesn’t think there will be any issues from this event and that there’s never been any complaints since it opened.

The council papers say the licence for the business allows it to have alcohol and entertainment to 1am on Friday and Saturday and late-night refreshment until 1.30am on a Friday and Saturday.

The one-off licence will allow it to operate until 3am.

A letter to the event boss from the council said: “The Environmental Health Service is satisfied that the licensing objectives will be undermined by way of noise from the provision of the regulated entertainment and from associated equipment used to provide the regulated entertainment.”
