Essex University has been given an overall ranking of 43rd out of the UK’s 132 universities in the most recent league tables published by the Times.

The placing represents a slight drop for the Colchester-based institution, which was ranked 40th in the same rankings this time a year ago.

Universities have been ranked based on how highly they’ve scored in a number of indicators, including teaching quality, student experience, research quality, and graduate prospects, amongst others.

Essex University scored particularly highly on its overall services and facilities spend, with a ranking of 7th overall.

The services and facilities indicator takes a two-year average of the university’s expenditure on academic services, and divides it by the total of full-time students.

However, the university had an average score when it came to student experience, placing 65th out of the 131 ranked universities – but still placed ahead of other longer standing institutions, such as the Warwick, Leeds, Durham, and Manchester.
