Police will be ramping up patrols in Pitsea following the suspected murder of a dog walker. 

A man in his 60s has died from his injuries after he was attacked while walking his dog in the Malyons Mews area at 2am on Wednesday. 

He was taken to hospital late on Wednesday with a head injury and his since died after his condition continued to deteoriate. 

A 47-year-old man from Basildon has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and murder in connection with the incident.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Police say they will now be increasing patrols in Pitsea to ressaure the public following the incident. 

Acting Chief Insp Steve Parry, of Basildon Community Policing Team, added: “This tragic incident will naturally cause shock within our community.

"I know detectives in our Major Crime Team have worked through the night on this investigation and continue to make progress on it today.

“There will be highly visible police patrols in place throughout today and into the weekend.

“My officers will be there to keep you safe and provide reassurance. If you do have any concerns, please speak to them.”
