The number of people being treated for coronavirus in hospitals in south and mid Essex has dropped by nearly a third.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in Basildon, Southend and Broomfield hospitasl for Covid-19 by 8am on September 28 was 63.

This was down from 86 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 decreased by 31% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 91.

The encouraging picture is also reflected in the number of people being treated on ventilators at the trust, which now stands at one.

Across England there were 5,126 people in hospital with Covid as of September 28, with 681 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 19% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 23%.

The figures also show that 60 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust in the week to September 26.

This was down from 80 in the previous seven days.
