A fun park ride is set to undergo a £250K revamp after getting families and customers in spin for 21 years.

The Claw at Adventure Island will get the face lift, park bosses have now announced.

They say the new improved ride will be back with "few new twists and turns."

Philip Miller MBE owner of the seafront amusement park said: "After 21yrs The Claw is having a 250K birthday refit. We are sending it back to the manufacturer for a total overhaul.

"It will be re- themed and enhanced with a few new twists and turns. It’s much loved so just did not want to replace it."

It comes after Adventure Island won an award at the national UK Theme Park Awards for 2021.

The Essex theme park in Southend received recognition for Best Customer Service.

The awards, now in their second year, are organised by ThemeParks-UK.com, an independent guide to UK theme parks.

A combination of scores from judges and 176,370 votes by the British public decided the outcomes.
