A man has been arrested in connection with a rape after a police cordon was seen at a playing field.

The suspected was quizzed following an incident which took place between 5pm and 11.50pm on Thursday 30 September 2021 in a playing field off Billet Lane, in Stanford-le-Hope.

Essex Police says officers believe the victim and suspect are known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public.

A 20-year-old man from South Ockendon was questioned and has been released on bail until October 24.

It comes after the area of Billet Playing Fields in Stanford-le-Hope was shut off with police and force vehicles on the scene.

In the centre of the cordon was play equipment and various residents are taking to social media to post about the incident.
