A flood warning has been issued for parts of south Essex due to heavy rain and high river levels.

The Government has issued the alert for the River Roach, Prittle Brook and Eastwood Brook.

It also comes as Essex Fire Service has warned driver to take care on the roads.

The flood warning has been issued due flooding to low lying land, roads and riverside areas is likely from now until mid morning today.

The warning says: "River levels are expected to remain high in response to rainfall. Areas most at risk are riverside areas of the Eastwood Brook around the A1015, Rayleigh Road, and Prittle Brook along Manchester Drive in Leigh-on-Sea. River levels will remain high throughout today.

"The forecast is for lighter rainfall throughout today and into this evening. Take care on riverside footpaths and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation and not expecting the situation to escalate. We will update this message by 5pm this evening, Tuesday 5th October."

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: "Take care on the roads this morning, many are flooded and we’ve had a high number of calls."
