RUBBISH was left at the side of the road with refuse workers unable to navigate their lorry past poorly parked cars on a residential street.

Bromfords Close in Wickford sits between Castledon School and Bromfords School, and is littered with parents and teachers parking on the pavements on a daily basis, furious residents claim.

The issue came to a head on Monday morning, when access to the road for refuse workers at Basildon Council was blocked, leaving pink recycling sacks left uncollected.

Bosses at the Castledon School insist the issue was not caused by teachers or parents, but have asked drivers to be considerate.

John Turner, 71, said: “The road was completely blocked, they couldn’t get down here.

“i think it’s both the teachers and parents who are doing it. We expect it to be busy at drop off and pick up time, but not all day.”

The rubbish was collected on yesterday afternoon.

Another resident, 80, who wished to remain anonymous, added: “It’s not visitors, it’s almost certainly the teachers and parents from the school. I’m not sure how they managed to collect the rubbish yesterday, the parking wasn’t much better.

“The workers had left a note on one of the cars, asking them to move it.”

Basildon Council urged residents and parents to “leave enough space” for larger vehicles.

Simon Holliday, headteacher at the Castledon School, added: “Many of our learners have a long journey to school each morning and travel in minibuses which park in our car park.

“We continue to ask staff to use our car parking areas and a significant number of staff walk and use public transport.

“Other recent initiatives include having staggered drop-off and pick-up times, this was put in place to reduce the impact on residents to ensure all minibuses can access the car park rather than parking down neighbouring roads.

“It is our understanding this was not created by parental drop-off or staff parking.

“We are anticipating improvements in parking capacity within the next month.”

The Bromfords School was contacted for comment.
