It's take two for the Southend fireworks this weekend.

The much anticipated event was due to return to the seafront last weekend but was cancelled due to heavy rain and strong winds.

Southend BID, which is organising the fireworks, has confirmed this weekend's display is due to go ahead and the good news is the weather could not be better for it.

The Met Office is predicting a bright and sunny day for Southend tomorrow.

Clear skies are forecast for much of the day, with temperatures peaking around 17c by 3pm.

Although there may be some cloud around in the afternoon, the skies will clear again by 5pm and stay that way throughout the evening.

In a post on Facebook confirming this weekend's display, Southend BID said: "Let's try that again shall we..... Head along to our free seafront fireworks this Saturday at 7.30pm to truly kickstart the autumn season.

"Please do not visit if you are showing COVID-19 symptoms, isolate and get tested - we have plenty more upcoming displays to watch."

Displays are taking place each Saturday at 7.30pm throughout October and November.

They are expected to last around 15 minutes long and will be taking place along the seafront each weekend.

The fireworks are supplied by Essex-based Dynamic Fireworks, who sponsor and contribute to the events, and will be biodegradable. Southend BID has been able to add three additional dates this year thanks to cash from the Government’s Welcome Back Fund. Event bosses say families and visitors are encouraging visitors to wear face masks in crowded areas when attending the displays.
