Thief who stole cash from Westcliff restaurant avoids immediate jail sentence
A man who stole £50 worth of cash from a restaurant in Westcliff has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
Dwayne Lawrence, 42, took the money from the SoPa Thai restaurant and takeaway back on March 25.
Lawrence, of West Road, was handed an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months when appearing at Southend Magistrates Court last week.
The magistrate deemed a prison sentence was necessary due to previous convictions and the ‘element of planning’ that had gone into the theft.
Lawrence was also ordered to pay £50 compensation.
