THE planned fireworks display on Southend seafront on Saturday night has been cancelled following the killing of Southend West MP Sir David Amess.
Southend Business Improvement District - which is behind the series of displays on the seafront, said the cancellation came as a result of Friday's tragic events in Leigh.
A spokesman said: "The heinous crime that took place at Leigh has left our community shocked, saddened and appalled.
"Our thoughts are with Sir David’s family at this time and we hope you will join us in grieving the loss of a truly dedicated public servant."
All other seafront firework displays will continue as planned.
Southend BID apologises for any inconvenience this cancellation causes.
The spokesman added: "However, we do not feel it appropriate to go forward with such a celebration this weekend.
"We thank you for your time and appreciate your understanding."
