A WOMAN has knitted a candle vigil ‘post box hat’ in a touching tribute to Sir David Amess.
The Southend West MP and father-of-five was brutally stabbed to death at a constituent surgery in Leigh on Friday.
Leigh resident Linda Catling was created a white post box hat depicting a candle and adorned with daisies.
Posting a photo of the tribute to social media, Linda said: “So tragic. Rest in peace Sir David Amess.”
Linda Catling started creating ’Postbox Hats’ during the first lockdown in 2020.
After losing half her eyesight, Linda wanted a new creative hobby to keep her busy during the months of pandemic-enforced isolation.
Inspired by residents in her community who placed teddy bears in their windows as a sign of support for the NHS during the pandemic, Linda, an experienced knitter for over 60 years, decided that it would be fun to knit a hat for the post box on her street.
The first hat went down a treat, so Linda decided to step it up, creating more elaborate designs.
She has since made over 30 of her post box hats in total, and her latest is a touching tribute to a much-loved MP who will be sorely missed by his constituents.
