A pensioner was left trapped in his car and roads are shut as heavy rain has caused flooding across south Essex.
One man in his 80s was stuck in his vehicle in Southend Road, Wickford under the railway bridge last night.

Four drivers stepped in to rescue him and fire crews were also on scene. Councillors have reported that multiple vehicles have been abandoned along the A127 after being caught in the floodwater overnight.

This morning, the A127 London bound is closed between Progress Road and Rayleigh Weir because of flooding. Prittlewell Brook and Eastwood Brook were reported to have burst their banks, with some local residents reporting flooding to their properties.

The Rayleigh Weir underpass is also closed in both directions with traffic diverted via the roundabout above it. Drivers are queuing back to Kent Elms Corner.
Residents have also reported "many homes are under water" with parts of Southchurch, Eastwood, Benfleet, Rochford and Rayleigh affected.
