MOTORISTS are being warned about night time closures on the A120 in order for maintenance works to place.

Highways England, which is responsible for the road, said the area between Pellen’s Corner in Little Bentley and Horsley Cross requires various works to improve the condition of the road network.

Works started this month and are expected to run until March next year.

but full closures will be in place from Monday, October 25, for five days on weeknights only.

The agency said: “Our works along this area of the A120 will involve repairing road defects such as resurfacing, renewal of road markings and road studs and new signs.

“The work here is essential and will contribute to the life expectancy road and make journeys safer for motorists.”

Eastbound traffic will be diverted from the A120 to the A133, B1033 and the B1035 before rejoining the A120 at Horsley Cross.

Westbound traffic will be diverted at Ramsey Roundabout on the A120 on to the B1353, B1414, B1033 and the A133 before rejoining the A120.

It is understood that when closures are needed, they will take place between 9pm and 6am.

Horsley Cross councillor Carlo Guglielmi said: “This will cause some problems with commuters getting home and traffic being diverted, but these are essential works.

“I understand Highways England have agree to delay any closure until 9pm for the benefit of ferries arriving at Harwich about that time, which is something that Tendring Parish Council was delighted to hear about.”

“But until we have the Freeport and a real upgrade of the A120, we have to work with what we’ve got.”
