South Essex is bracing itself for more heavy donwpours and flooding after the Met Office issued a wather warning for tomorrow.

The yellow warning is in place between midnight and 3pm Sunday amid fears homes and businesses couldbe battling flood water.

The Met Office says disruption is also likely on public transport services as a result of the bad weather.

It comes just weeks after south Essex was hit by flooding due to heavy rain

It saw Essex Fire Service deal with more than 100 incidents in a single night as parts of Southend, Rochford and Canvey were left under water.

When will the heavy rain arrive in south Essex?

The latest forecast shows it will be largely dry in south Essex overnight.

Light rain and showers are expected around 7am but this will turn to heavy rain by 8am.

The Met Office says the heavy rain will likely continue for three hours before easing around 11am.

Light rain is then forecast until 2pm when the skies will clear and sun is forecast for the remainder of the day.

Up to 20 to 30mm of rain could fall throughout Sunday.

Flood alerts

Flood alerts have been issued in England and Scotland due to heavy rain leading to rivers bursting their banks.

However, no alerts have been issued in Essex yet.

Ben Lukey, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, said: “The public need to stay on alert this weekend and into early next week as surface water and river flooding could still bring disruption in the south west as well as part of northern England.

“Environment Agency teams have been out on the ground clearing grilles and screens where flood debris can build up and impede river flows, and stand ready to operate flood defences if needed.

“Working with our partners in local resilience forums, we are supporting emergency response to keep people safe where flooding does occur."
