A conman has been posing as an ex-serviceman to attempt to sell household items.

Police have warned residents about the incidents in Thurdersley.

Officers also say the man has produced an armed forces veterans ID card when visiting homes in the village.

Essex Police has also issued a warning and advice about door to door sales.

A spokesman said: "We have recently been made aware of a male conducting door to door sales in the Thundersley area, claiming to be an ex-serviceman.

"They have produced an armed forces veterans ID card and will try to sell you sub-standard overpriced household items. These are often referred to as 'Nottingham knockers'.

"We urge caution when speaking to anyone trying to sell you items at your door. Never allow them into your property to use the toilet or have a glass of water.
