Boris Johnson will make a Covid announcement today amid warnings from health officials of a "bumpy few months ahead" for the UK.

The UK prime minister will be joined by chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty and chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance for the press briefing.

It comes following confirmation on Monday morning that over-40s would receive a Covid booster jab, after results found that the third dose strengthened immunity and extended how long people were protected.

According to the government's scientific advisors, the booster jab has the potential to reduce transmission of the virus over the winter months, which would in turn relieve pressure from the NHS.

Speaking on Monday morning, Sir Vallance said: "if the booster programme is successful, and with very high uptake, we can massively reduce the worry about hospitalisation and death due to Covid at Christmas, and for the rest of this winter."

It was also confirmed that 16 and 17-year olds, who were previously offered only a single dose of the vaccine, will be offered a second jab.

The prime minister will likely address these changes in his update this afternoon, so with that in mind, here's how you can tune in to Boris Johnson's Covid update today...
