Courts across Essex deal with dozens of drivers who speed each week. 

Speeding incurs penalty points and in most cases a hefty fine too. 

Here are four cases where drivers were caught speeding on roads across south Essex and their cases were heard in court this month. 

David Davies, 51, of Codenham Green, Basildon, was caught travelling at 57mph in a 30mph zone in London Road, Wickford, on August 26. 

At Basildon Magistrates' Court he was handed six penalty points and fined £707. 

He must also pay a £70 victim services fund and £90 costs. 

Kevin Parker, 59, of Market Avenue, Wickford, was caught travelling at 85mph on the A12 at Hatfield Peverel on March 30. He should have been travelling at 70mph. 

At Basildon Magistratess Court he was handed three penalty points and fined £355. 

He must also pay a victim services fund of £35 and £90 costs.

Jamie Clarke, 27, of Oban Road, Southend, was caught travelling at 43mph in a 30mph zone on Western Esplanade on March 29. 

At Basildon Magistratess Court he was handed four penalty points and fined £440. 

He must also pay a victim services fund of £44 and £90 costs.

Alan Sheard, 33, of Albany Road, Wickford, was caught travelling at 41mph in a 30mph zone on Runwell Road on April 4. 

At Chelmsford Magistrates' Court he was handed four penalty points and fined £440. 

He must also pay a victim services fund of £34 and £90 costs.
