AN up-and-coming diving star is training alongside his sporting hero Tom Daley - which the teen hopes will spur him on pick up an Olympic gold. 

Tyler Humphreys, from Southend, recently won gold in the individual event and bronze in the synchro at the Junior European Championships in Croatia.

He then went on to win two more golds at the GB Junior Elites Diving Championships.

Now, the 18-year-old trains at the London Aquatics Centre with Olympic athletes such as Tom Daley and Matty Lee, who both recently won Olympic gold in Tokyo.

Tyler first started diving at just eight years old.

He said training with the pair helps to motivate him even more.

He said: “I currently train at London Aquatics Centre alongside Olympians, such as Tom Daley and Matty Lee, both recent Olympic gold medallists.

“Training with them is such a push for my career, when I come in and train alongside two Olympic gold medallists, it is such a buzz, and even more motivation to give it my all and one day win that gold Olympic medal every athlete dreams of.”

The young star is now aiming for the Commonwealth Games, which are due to be held in Birmingham in the summer of 2022.

His recent selection for the Junior World Championships in Kiev was taken away after the games were cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation in Ukraine.

Tyler Humphreys explained how he felt when he was selected for the World Championships before they were recently cancelled.

He said: “Knowing that my country think I am good enough to represent them in a World Championships is an amazing feeling, it was one of the best, I can’t even describe it.”

Tyler has previously won gold and bronze in the 2018 European Championships alongside making the finals in the 2019 World Championships and Men’s Singapore Grand Prix.

He added he is also looking for some sponsorships to help him reach his dreams.
