TWO organisations in the district are set to receive a major funding boost to help them recover from lockdown.

The Combined Military Services Museum in Maldon and the Rio Cinema in Burnham-on-Crouch are just two of the 925 cultural organisations across England which will benefit from funding totalling £107 million in the latest round of Cultural Recovery Fund grants.

The fund was set up to support these organisations through the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and it has already distributed £1.2 billion to around 5,000 organisations and sites across the country.

The Combined Military Services Museum is set to receive £43,084, and Rio Cinema will receive £42,284.

This latest round of funding will provide a "lifeline" to these two venues and many more after a difficult 18 months for the arts industry.

Maldon MP John Whittingdale said: "I am delighted that the Rio and the Combined Military Services Museum will receive further grants to help them to recover from the lockdown and to sustain them through the winter.

"Both are important local cultural assets that are valued by local residents and by visitors to the district and I hope that this funding will help to ensure they have a secure future."
