COLCHESTER United head coach Hayden Mullins says their FA Cup clash with Wigan Athletic this weekend is a great test for his side.

The U's play host to the League One high-fliers at the JobServe Community Stadium on Sunday lunchtime (12.30pm kick-off), hoping to upset the odds and book their place in the third round.

Colchester played the role of favourites when they beat their non-league neighbours AFC Sudbury 4-0, in the first round.

It will be a different scenario this weekend though and boss Mullins is relishing the prospect of seeing his side take on the 2013 FA Cup winners.

Mullins said: “It’s another good cup game for us.

“We’ve sort of flipped from last time when we played Sudbury and we were the ones that everyone would hope would slip up.

“Hopefully, we can put in another good performance against Wigan.

“We know that they’re a good side, they’re top of League One and a strong side.

“It’s a great test for us and a good game for us to pit ourselves against a really good side.

“We’re at home and we want to attack the game as we want to try and do most weeks and hopefully, we can get a result."

Meanwhile boss Mullins says Colchester can reap the benefits of Alan Judge's (pictured above) set-pieces, this season.

The former Blackburn, Brentford and Ipswich midfielder provided the assists for both of Luke Chambers' goals in their 2-1 win at Swindon Town in the Papa John's Trophy, on Tuesday night.

Judge, who made his first start for the U's in more than six weeks at Swindon after he was sidelined with a calf injury, also set up Freddie Sears' equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Newport County, last Friday.

Mullins said: “Alan Judge’s delivery is quality.

“We saw his set-piece delivery in pre-season and we knew that he was going to be big for us, this season.

“It’s a shame that we missed him in this stint, because he’s a really quality player.

“He showed that with the vision he showed to set up Freddie Sears’ goal after coming on against Newport and his set-piece delivery at Swindon was always a threat.

“He’s such a key part in the middle of the pitch and if we can get him on the ball with his time and space, he can make things happen."
